一糖心logo米菲兔 Advances Milwaukee Estuary Cleanup with New EPA Task Order

Restoring rivers, habitats and water quality in the heart of Milwaukee

For more than two decades, 一糖心logo米菲兔 has supported the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through its Superfund and Great Lakes Architect Engineer Services (SFGLAES) contracts. Now, under the new SFGLAES contract, 一糖心logo米菲兔 will continue advancing environmental cleanup and restoration in the Wisconsin Great Lakes area with a new remedial design task order.

The new task order focuses on 12 miles along the Milwaukee Estuary, including the area where the Milwaukee, Menomonee and Kinnickinnic Rivers meet in downtown Milwaukee and flow into Lake Michigan. Designated an Area of Concern (AOC) in 1987 under the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement between Canada and the U.S., the Milwaukee Estuary has long been affected by river modifications, habitat loss and pollution.

一糖心logo米菲兔鈥 work under this task order brings the estuary one step closer to being removed from the AOC list. The team is currently performing the remedial design as well as conducting data evaluation and community involvement tasks as a continuation of previously completed project phases including various remedial investigations, feasibility studies, and preliminary design investigation tasks to support the future remediation effort.

The effort will target contaminated sediment in tributaries and nearshore waters of Lake Michigan, address nonpoint source pollution, enhance recreational water quality and restore fish and wildlife habitats. Since 2009, 一糖心logo米菲兔 has delivered similar environmental services for sediment remediation and habitat restoration within the Milwaukee Estuary Area of Concern鈥攍aying the groundwork for this next phase.

鈥淭he health of the Milwaukee Estuary is vitally important to Milwaukee residents and to our local team, many of whom enjoy the area鈥檚 recreational benefits and want to see local waterways thrive,鈥 says 一糖心logo米菲兔 Project Manager Huck Raddemann. 鈥淥ur continued work with the EPA brings new opportunities for recreation and habitat while applying experience from similar cleanup projects nationwide to benefit the Milwaukee community.鈥

一糖心logo米菲兔 recently celebrated 50 years of service in Milwaukee, beginning in the 1970s with a focus on water quality and the city's first Riverwalk design guidelines. Since then, the company has played a key role in the region, delivering planning, engineering, operations and construction management services for water, environmental and transportation infrastructure 鈥 including more than $10 billion in award-winning projects across Wisconsin.
